The Whitechapel Gallery

Co-mentoring is an equally beneficial experience where each mentor shares experience, questions, supports, understands, values and shows integrity. I trained to be a teacher in 1995. I joined the teaching profession firstly as an art teacher and soon after became the Community Arts Co-ordinator and then the Head of Art. It is through networking and community art connections that I have managed to build up in my department an amazing collection of community art projects. Through this process I came to realise that I also needed to re-engage with my art practice, which lead me to the Co-Mentoring programme at the Whitechapel Gallery in 2011-2012. Co-mentoring created time for me to reflect. The experience is one that enabled me to think about my practice as an artist teacher. The experience of learning about my co-mentors art practice was a truly liberating experience and one that set me on the road to returning to my practice. |
